The Chairman's Run

Started from Hellifield Railway Station Cafe with teas and coffees, bacon sandwiches as an option.

13 cars and 25 members started from here to follow the route of the Settle - Carlisle Railway.

En route included Ingleton, Chapel-le-Dale Church where there is a memorial to those killed building the railway.

Continuing past the lonely Hill Inn, Ribblehead, Dent and Sedbergh, through the Howgills and to the Fat Lamb Inn

for midday dinner (a venue to be recommended). Despite cloudy conditions with occasional sun bursts all enjoyed the day out with no breakdowns.

The run terminated at Kirkby Stephen, some choosing to return home through Arkengarthdale.

Flying without an engine

Barry Lumb, one of our newer members, delivered an interesting talk on Gliding at last month’s club night.

It included a potted history of the ‘sport’ and a few technical details to help us

understand the development of the gliders and why they had changed.

He is willing to organise a trip to the Yorkshire Gliding Centre and flights for anyone who is interested.

A sheet for names will be available at club night or contact George.
